The holistic approach to detox from bestselling author and leading expert on Eastern philosophy and medicine by Daniel Reid the best selling author of The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity
Daniel Reid is an expert on Taoist philosophy and medicine. In The Tao of Detox he combines the best of ancient Eastern and the latest of modern Western thinking to provide a whole armory of ways to cleanse our bodies of the environmental toxins we inevitably absorb. He begins by discussing the basic protocols of detox: flushing out acids, restoring the proper pH balance, `dredging the drains' and keeping the blood circulating freely. The chapters that follow explore the major detoxing tools: water, massage and soft exercise, breathing, nutrition, fasting and colonic irrigation, sunlight, herbs and even the range of high-tech electro-detox devices currently available. Then there is a section on `Retox' with advice on using diet and supplements to maintain optimal health, and on how to avoid the toxic effects of smoking, drinking and medicinal and recreational drugs. It is time we recognised the direct correlation between the external pollution of the environment and the internal pollution of the body. The toxins in the air, in the water and in our food inevitably make their way into the human body, but until we take drastic measures to clean up our planet, we have to detoxify the human system from the inside. Combining the best of ancient eastern and the latest of modern western thinking, The Tao of Detox offers a solution to restoring and preserving your good health through detox. If you want to fight chronic disease, live longer, lose weight or just feel the benefits of good health with glowing skin and masses of energy, Daniel Reid's rational and scientific advice will tell you how. Highly practical, The Tao of Detox shows the way to enjoy immediate wellbeing and the promise of a longer, ailment-free life - and all without sacrificing the enjoyment of life's pleasures. Reviews from Amazon.com I picked this book up after a trip to Bali where I saw one of the author's flyers for a health retreat he was conducting. I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to health and wellness gurus even though I pretty much embrace the alternative lifestyle - eat organic, mostly vegetarian, do yoga, chi gung, meditation that kind of thing and I was a little reluctant to buy the book. Let me say I'm glad I did! I quickly went on to buy his other three major books. First up, I let me say, I was simply astounded in how much information was packed into this volume. Page after page is PACKED with advice, explanation, and recommendations on tools, techniques, methods, food and eating guidelines and products. I did a ten day cleanse as recommended by the author. It took some discipline to only do juices for 10 days and use the cleanse kit I bought yet it was well worth the effort. It's a massive understatement to say that I was SHOCKED at the toxic waste that came out of me and I immediately felt 1000% better. I'm not sure I can do justice with words how much better I felt after my first cleanse. Let me say though, I consider the cleanse to have been one of the best things I've done in my entire life and it is now a part of my regular health routine. The book is incredibly comprehensive (there are so many little tips, product recommendations (not for the author's benefit) etc. in there that may be of interest to the reader, including invaluable source lists), well researched and it's quite clear the author is writing from personal experience, it's not just something he's researched or read. Reid knows what he's talking about and has obviously made health and longevity and its study a core part of his life. I can't highly recommend this, and his other books (Tao of Health Sex & Longevity and The Complete Book of Chinese Health & Healing) enough. If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to cleansing, you're not going to do any better than this. I have read many of daniel reid's books and they are all incredibly informative and easy to understand, this book is no exception. daniel reid gives a practical way to exist in our society that's full of toxicity and periodically or daily clean or 'detoxify' ourselves. that simple act can great lenghten and improve one's life. the best part is he really gives great suggestions on methods and products people could use to detoxify. i really recommend this book for everyone. |
