Written by a Westerner for the Western mind, here is the first book to explore in light of modern science the balanced and comprehensive system of health care used by Chinese physicians, martial artists, and meditators for over 5,000 years.

The author presents a review of Taoist practice based on personal experience and on scholarship. He covers historical and philosophical aspects, fasting, nutrition, breathing, exercise, and healing arts. Another major section of the text discusses the Taoist bedroom arts, considering topics such as yin and yang, birth control, ejaculation control, and herbal aphrodisiacs. A final section reviews longevity and meditation techniques.

Drawing on original Chinese sources and years of personal experience, the author introduces the philosophy of Tao and gives detailed, practical information on:

  • Diet and nutrition, including sample menus

  • Food combining, and detoxifying the body

  • specific foods and juices as treatments for a wide range of diseases (including such modern Western concerns as hypertension, cancer, infertility, herpes, and AIDS)

  • fasting and excretion

  • breathing exercises

  • physical exercises for long life, total relaxation, and general health

  • acupuncture and massage techniques

  • Taoist birth control

  • sex therapy

  • bedroom arts and techniques to ensure complete satisfaction for both partners (considered essential for good health and long life)

  • herbal aphrodisiacs and other sexual aids

  • meditation -- turning essence into energy and energy into spirit

With many helpful charts and clear illustrations, The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity makes the ancient "Way" easily accessible to those seeking the latest in New Age health care.

Extremely Influencial in My Life

I do not want to gush, so I will try and be as objective as possible. I grew up as a traditional martial artist, and at the hands of a hospital I was done a grave injustice ... the results left me with a very youthful looking 20 year old body, with very old organs. I was in the process of rehabilitating my body when I came across Mr. Reid's work. I was very fortunate to have had the training that I did, and I was working dilligently to re-build myself ... however ... there were things missing in my approach. HUGE gaps were filled in by Mr. Reid's enlightening research.

In this book, Mr. Reid shares some wonderful methods that successfully unify Western natural approaches w/ Traditional Chinese health practices. As someone who already followed the Tao, fasting was a regular part of my life, but this but put a fantastically bright light on my practices. His work is engaging to read and very effective in terms of an approach to healthcare.

If you are looking for Detox purposes, definately check out Mr. Reid's book "The Tao of Detox" for a more indepth view on the subject. In terms of a "whole package" this is a wonderful place to start, very new look into old authentic Taoist methods ... very well done.

Yours,

Eastern Philosophy Comes To The West With Great Results

Tired of boring health books that bog you down with a lot of technical, impractical mumbo-jumbo? Looking for that one book that addresses the issues of diet, exercise and overall health? Well this is the book! Not only does it delve into the intricacies of these subjects, it relates the Tao ideologies connected with fasting, proper breathing, sexual techniques, meditation and much more. This 400-page reading is packed with valuable information and offers something advantageous for all, no matter the age or gender. Reid brilliantly conveys the philosophical approach of Eastern practices in a manner that any westerner can identify with. Although it is composed in a "text book" format, the writing is never boring and the data is so enlightening and mentally stimulating, it almost prompts one to instantly attempt to apply some of the methodology written within. Personally, I've applied several of the techniques Reid writes about, and found each to be valid and beneficial. I highly recommend you add this to your library, and even suggest you display it on your coffee table, as an excellent conversation book.

Enlightenment. The real way to change your life.

This book was an unexpected, and amazing find. While not every page of this book may be for you, it will definately act like a 'slap in the face' about your current lifestyle.

The insight provided into health (mental and physical), diet and longevity is priceless. If you feel sluggish, unsatisfied, and wanting more from life, this book is for you.

So many of our 'Western' habits are founded on the wrong principles, or they don't listen to the natural way of the body. This book leads you by the hand, and points you in the right direction.

By far one of the most enlightening books I've ever read. Buy it even if you could care less about 'Taoism'. It will compliment anyone's life. Contains detailed information about diet and food combinations, real-world nutritional facts (not nutritional theorems grown in a lab by a scientist working for a food corporation), great solutions for stress relief and inner peace, and so much more.

Throw out every self help book, diet book, and exercise book that you own and read The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity. It starts with the nature of your body in mind, not with a theory.

Where most books contain some helpful advice, you are often left feeling like your money was taken. This book will make you wish for more. Much more.

Life THAT Much Better!

I believed I was like everyone else ... that I could try to be healthier, but that I wouldn't feel THAT much better. But I did, and I did. So much so that I took Reid's suggestions [based on] ancient Chinese wisdom to extreme, my life so much better for it. It's amazing how much improvement can be made from diet alone. Acupuncture and herbs can tweak your condition, but the most substancial improvements are made with diet as described in this book. I found great improvements with every aspect tried - including colonics. Areas of possible improvements are endless. With true effort following this book, I have cured my allergies, improved my vision and have been sick only twice in the past two years (both just a head cold). My most prized improvement has been clarity of mind, best described as level of awareness.

I also recommend Reid's, "The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing", as an important complement.

Remarkable Book

Whether you are a beginner on the path, or a more advanced person looking for a reminder, this book will become a lifelong friend. A historical and philosophical understanding of the Tao, life altering dietary suggestions, and a plethora of immortalist techniques. Breathing exercises, Sexual Yoga, Fasting and the ills of the modern diet---loaded with outstanding information!

Any book that serves Mind, Body and Spirit should be lauded, and this book delivers.

Keep your mind open when reading this, and don't be alarmed by the Enemas!!!

This book has helped my health, my sex life and call me in 300 years to find out about the longevity part.

GREAT WORK that can change your health for the better!

Reid encourages the use of natural food and fruits for one's diet to cure ailments such as headaches, obesity etc.

The best chapter in the book is on Breathing and "Chi", where he explains what chi is, and how it works to energize the body.

The second best chapter would be the one about sexual secrets of the Taoist - particularly for males. Men seems to be the gender that has more disadvantage in sex than females, since men think about sex most of the time, have great drive towards it, yet without knowing the Taoist secrets, men are disillisioned about it since they gets less satisfaction, and are left enervated (fatigued) after sex. Reid explains the ancient Taoist secret to avoid those disadvantages and turn it around.

The third best chapter is the one on Food Combination. I have been following it for a few years, and what a difference it makes. After lunch, I see my friends feeling so sleepy that they find it hard to stay awake, yet i feel energized.

This is a great book, read it with an open mind. It is certainly much better than Dr Atkins or Carbohydrate Addict books which have much negative side effects.

This is the best 12 bucks you will ever spend.

Damn! This book is fantastic! i am 18 and stumbled across reid's 'complete book of chinese health and healing' at barnes and noble a year ago. i then searched for 'the tao of health sex and longevity.' both books are a must for the depressed, sick, chronically sick and everyone else. i was deeply depressed before reading this book and used many illegal drugs to forget about it. but since reading his books, i have changed my diet, started the breathing exercises, practicing controlled fasting and taking tai chi lessons. i no longer use drugs and the world isn't a sad, gray place anymore, nor is my body an aching mess. this book is crammed with practical information much of which can start being practiced the very day you read it. you won't look at health care the same way ever again. also it is a greater intro to TAOISM. once you become accquainted with that word you will smile every time you read it or hear it. this is the best 12 bucks you will ever spend.

Inspired to the peak of health with this literature

Somehow Daniel Reid's words brought me to my absolute best physical condition.

His suggestions picked up momentum and my enthusiasm for health became an accelerating train. I find myself calm and peaceful with almost no body fat, and a strong, defined, lean muscular body.

I found the spiritual aspects to this book wonderful, but I would also recommend it to people who would like it just for its inspirational aspects regarding health.

Truly transformational.

A great reference book for improving health & vitality

This book saved me from digestive disorder!

The most important things i learned from this book is the power of breathing, and how to breathe affectively to gain vitality, how food combination affects your health massively, how to control your sex life instead of letting it control you, what food are actually good for you etc.

Read this book if you care about your health. And find out why not all western 'scientific' researches are correct.

Instead of looking for credibility, I was looking for WHAT REALLY WORKS and HOW TO APPLY it.

And this book proves that Daniel Reid knows what he's writing about!

IN BRIEF: If you are interested in health then READ THIS BOOK.

IN MORE WORDS:
This book is not, in my experience, for those that are purely interested in pursuing a study of Taoist philosophy. Well, that's not to say you won't like it for other reasons, but I don't think this book is a book on "Taoist philosophy" if that's what you are looking for.

This book is, in my experience, A TRULY VALUABLE ASSET for those wishing to learn more about a broad and deep understanding of health from a physical and metaphysical perspective. This book is both very pragmatic (of practical use and application) and a great introduction to many elements of ancient wisdom and in particular the Taoist view of life/reality and health.

I am sure that anyone with a relatively open-mind and an authentic interest in health will find this book to be GREAT VALUE. In fact I think many people will find it rather life changing. I don't say that lightly. I've read many many health related books, and this is one of the few I give that status to.

The topics covered are ones that I have been actively exploring, applying, and teaching since my early teens; and it is with that background history that I make my recommendation to read this book.

I should note that this book would be best read by those that are willing to actually apply and use the practical information it presents. If you just want to explore the theory of natural healing there may well be other books you're best to give your attention to. A large portion of this book is hands-on information as opposed to just philosophising.

This book is loaded with practical and highly usable, health enhancing information.

I wish you all the best of health,

Jonathan Evatt

Tao - The Way of Nature

Westerners backing into eastern philosophy will find Daniel Reid at the apex. I read this book in April 1993. Since that time I have collected and thoroughly studied each of his books.

To express how I feel about Mr. Reid's work you need only know that each of my children has received their copies of this work as a gift from me with parental guidance to "read and listen to the teachings of old, as presented through the eyes of a present day traveler"

Thank you Daniel Reid for conveying a light on Chinese antiquity and ideas, I for one am appreciative.

The truth be known inbetween these covers...

I read this book approximately 7 years ago and practiced everything to the letter for a little over 2 years.

I have a degree in plant and soil science and after taking the actions in this book, felt better than I ever have before in my life.

The nature of the universe is much more powerful when tapped into than western science.

... to practice this way of life in the west ... be ready to heal, have clarity, and become more concious than ever before. Only a very small portion of the population wants to be this concious. So can you!

This is an EXCELLENT introduction to Taoism!!!

Simply put: I bought this book out of curiosity and wound up curing a digestive disorder that had plagued me for my entire life!

Thank you Daniel Reid for compiling this information in a comprehensive and easily "digestible" manner.

I also strongly recommend his other books, especially "The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing"

If you are serious about changing your life or curious about Tao, these books are all the introduction you will require.

Life changing and absolutely brilliantly simple

my partner and good friend read this book first and it blew his mind we have always lived very simple lives. we have also always had a wonderful physical relationship but this book has blown us away it is amazing how ones spiritual path suddenly opens to new dimensions when you release the fear of simplicity and the power it holds it is truly quite one of the most powerfully yet simply written books ever. blessings to you and thank you for sharing your wisdom

Everything you need to know to live in one well-written book

Quite simply, the most important book ever written on the nuts and bolts of how to lead a simple, healthy and rewarding life while still being a part of modern society.

Thousands of years of knowledge are condensed into a few hundred tightly written pages.

Interspersed with practical instruction on diet, exercise, meditation, sex and hygiene are stories from the Taoist sages of ancient China, as well as the words of modern-day prophets whom you might never hear about anyplace else.

This is the kind of book you will want to keep on your nightstand and just read over and over, little pieces at a time.

Open this book to any page and just start reading, and you will learn something.

You don't even have to be a Taoist to like this book... but it helps!

Daniel Reid, if you're out there someplace, thank you for writing this wonderful book!

Modern physiological approch to ancient knowledge

Thanks to Daniel Reid for presenting the superb ancient knowledge in a modern physiological way.

I am so surprised that such advanced medical knowledge were already mastered by the Chinese thousands of years ago, they are so useful but were ignored for centuries.

Most of the important topics have never been emphasized in the modern medical schools.

A book of true insight into the realms of life

I love this book. The Tao of health is amazingly helpful. It cured me of am aliment that has crushed me for years. It might be hard to grasp for many, but believe me it sure works miracles for anyone.

Not only is this an excellent introduction, but a source

I rate this book a nine, for one reason, it is not complete without the sequel, "The Complete Book of Chinese Health and Healing". The standard review for this book is "an excellent introduction to the field of Chinese health and philososphy". Reid takes a complex, ancient theory, and disentangles it to a jargonless composition that is indispensible to the Western Taoist. This is not only "an excellent introduction", but "the source", for those interested in broadening their mind, body, and spirit.
